One of my favorite movies to watch is Watching Tall, that has The Rock, or Dwayne Johnson in it. The movie is basically about how a war veteran comes back to his hometown when his service is completed. Upon his arrival he stumbles across a crooked casino that is ran by a buddy of his from high school. He also learns that the casino, and the people involved with it, are the one's that are pushing a majority of the drugs through the community.
I think this film represents several justice issues. The first being that kids around town are have easy access to drugs. The second is that because the owner of the casino has so much money, he has the local police department all on his side. It is hard to hold anything against the casino because the Sheriff of the town will find any way possible to throw any charges out. It really goes to show how in many small towns, money has a huge impact on the result of many things. People who are entitled to lots of money pay their ways out of trouble and continue their illegal actions. This issue is the main one I found to be represented in the film, and is one that I feel is still highly present in towns around the country. It is hard to serve justice properly if the process is influenced by those with ample amounts of money.

ReplyDeleteI see a connection from the small town idea of money to blood diamonds...anyone will do anything for money unfortunately. I like Dwayne Johnson, if you like his movies definitely recommend the new one that's coming out soon called Faster, it looks pretty good.
ReplyDeleteI almost used this movie as well. This is one hell of an awesome movie. It is packed with a lot of action scenes and also just as funny with Johnny Knoxville. I see the connection you mention and I agree with it. It has been proven too many times in our country that money is everything and with money you have the opportunity to get out of a lot. Great pick on this movie.
ReplyDeleteHaven't seen this one..
